Every Season John galliano continues to blow my mind. His Spring/Summer 2009 collection was even more whimsical than his last collection. He is a mastermind in Fashion and is also the creative brains behind Christian Dior. He has a very vivid imagination when it comes to his use of color and detail.

Matthew Williamson is a Fashion Designer that originated from Manchester. He attended Parsons school of design and now shows at New York City Fashion Week. His designs are so flattering for women and his use of colors this season are spectacular! Very slimming silhouetteswith a feminine touch to tailored garments. He is constantly flattering women and their shapes. He likes close fitted clothing and bright colors to make a statement.

Happy Spring was blossoming in London, designed by Luella Bartley. I wanted to share these designs with everyone because I think they are just fabulous. Luella used a mixture of bright colors, tweeds and even some lace. I love her new collection because of how inspiring the colors are. Watch out Chanel! Luella is coming with her whimsical tweed suits!

Harajuku is the fashion spot in Japan. Every Sunday thousands of young men and women dress up and go to the mission district Harajuku. I am constantly inspired by what they where and how they imagine to put these outfits together. There is very whimsical looks to very goth and even a baby doll look that is really kind of sweet. These young individuals strive on setting trends, and I personally cant feed off of them enough for constant inspiration. 

I love that paper designs constantly come from europe. They are so inspirationial! Europeans get really technical when it comes to paper art. They form paper into jewelry, clothes, furniture, and houseware. The way that they play and experiment with paper is so much more detailed than what I think of paper and what it can do. Do you remember when you were a kid and you made all of those paper snowflakes? Its kinda like that! They cut shapes out of a dress to make the designs and cutouts shine through, so it looks like a huge snowflake! This past fall 2008 runway show by Alexander McQueen showcased a dress just as I described. The dress looked as if it was a two piece and had a huge fluffy skirt with a paper like textured fabric that had designs cut out from this fabric and was sewn on top of the skirt that connected the entire dress together. I constantly love looking at new paper designs that come from London, Holland and from the Danish are the most inspirational.

Two culturescombined in the latest Alexander Mcqueen Fall 2008 Collection. He combined Middle eastern inspired shoes and head pieces with British Colombian prints and silhouettes. McQueens dresses were inspired by the crinoline princesses of the 19th century, and of Britishcolonial romance with a twist of the Duke of Wellington and the Indian Empire.  The British and Colonial style came from the late 19th century. Under the reign of Queen Victoria the vast British Empire had reached parts of North and South America, Australia, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The British Colombians would often add their own flourishes such as the carved pineapple, and melding of other cultures motifs.

The silhouettes are regal and voluptuous. The shoes that came out on this runway were very detailed and embellished. The toes curled up just slightly to give the middle eastern feeling. In India they call these shoes Jutis, a slip on shoe that is usually embellished and with upturned toes. The head pieces were so extravagantthat it dressed up every clothing piece that came down the runway with a very regal feeling and look. They were very detailed with diamonds and rare gemstones for an unbelievable look of “rareness.” The Middle eastern women call these jewelled hair ornaments that sit on the side of there head, Jhoomar. Which Alexander Mcqueen made his own version of these head pieces. In this particular dress he used the Queen Victoria fabric that has the Britishflag tied in with her face picture. The collection was very well rounded with ballerina length, and multi flounced dance dresses.

Glamor in the 1950′s is a constant classic style that is being brought back time and time again. This was the time that Dior came out with “The New Look” and it changed the history of fashion. It was never the same again, after a new consumer was driving society and it was the teenager that became the emerging fashion voice. Fashion Conscious woman between the ages of thirty and forty had no idea what to think when there was eighteen year old girls dressed and made themselves up to look like their mothers. Fashion for women returned with a vengeance and the 1950′s era is known mainly for two silhouettes, that of the full skirt and the pencil slim tubular skirt, with both placing great emphasis on the narrowness of the waist. The skirts are the main category that I am looking at today.

John galliano, designer for Christian Dior had the fifties in mind this fall 2008 and his main inspiration was driven from women like Lisa Fonssagrives. There was the big coats, wasp waists, nipped jackets, circle skirts, tulle dance dresses, architectural gowns cut from spiraling lace. All of the main components from the fifties are present in his latest collection. Wide belts across the high waist shows emphasis on the womans curves. Very flowing skirts with a very architectural tailored cut tops. John Galliano brought back “The New Look” from Christian Dior, to a new and modern collection inspired from the past.

A torero is the main performer in bullfighting events in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. He or she is the person who performs with and kills the bull. The term torero encompases bullfighters who fight the bull in the ring for performance. Usually when they are presented to the crowd they are called matador de toros, matador for short. Matador costumes are elaborate. Clothing items include jacket, pants, shirt, tie and a belt and montera which is the cape. Because of the decorations and elaborateness on the costume, the Spanish language nickname for the torero’s outfit is called the “traje de luces”, meaning the “suit of lights”.

The matador meets victorian with bejeweled jackets; leg-of-mutton sleeves; frothing tulle skirts; lace-veiled eyes; and jet-encrusted mohawks. The matador jackets are paired with victorian lacy tops, for a really feminine feeling. Christian Lacroix captured Edwardian Corsetry to a tee. For this Fall 2008, Lacroix mastered the spanish edwardian look by designing extravagant corsets to be worn over the leg of mutton lacy tops, and a bell shaped skirt.

In the Edwardian era which is around 1890′s and 1900′s, the fashion really favored the mature woman. It exploited the curves of a elaborate corseted figure. This era was the last period in fashion History when the mature female figure was every man’s ideal. Some women of this time would lace their corsets so tightly that they distorted their figures into the really exaggerated ‘S’ shape. Some of these ladies were called Buxom ladies, that tortured their flesh to achieve this silhouette.
